Subaru announced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show that its Forester compact crossover SUV will offer an upgraded multimedia system and the brand’s Starlink emergency communication service for the 2016 model year. The 2016 Forester arrives in August 2015, and pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date.

The 2016 Forester is now available with a 7-inch touch-screen multimedia system that’s already in other Subaru models like the Impreza. The system includes satellite radio, Bluetooth streaming audio, two USB ports, an MP3 jack and Pandora and Aha app integration. Touch-screen menus swipe and scroll like a smartphone and there are touch-sensitive pads surrounding the display, though volume and tuning functions are operated by traditional knobs.
The Starlink communication system enhances safety with automatic collision notification, offers smartphone-based control of vehicle features like the power locks and provides monthly diagnostic reports. Like GM’s OnStar system, Starlink lets you press a button to speak with an advisor when you need help. It will also reach out for help automatically if the airbags deploy. Subaru says Starlink will be available later this year in select 2016 models.
