In other news:

  • Chrysler’s quarterly profits hit $436 million on strong sales, a reversal of the $551 million loss in the year-ago quarter. Through the first half of 2012, the Fiat-controlled automaker’s U.S. sales, including the Fiat 500, are up 30%.
  • Honda reported a quarterly profit of $2.25 billion at current exchange rates, Reuters reports. That’s eight times more than a year ago, when the automaker grappled with inventory losses from an earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
  • We reported last year that Buick would make IntelliLink standard once the brand finished launching the dashboard multimedia system. That’s about to happen: IntelliLink will come on every 2013 Buick, the Detroit News reports.
  • Recent departures at GM — including the automaker’s European chief, marketing head and a top designer — have raised concerns, the Detroit News reports. A GM spokesman told the newspaper the departures’ timing is “purely coincidental,” but one analyst noted the personnel changes demonstrate the “new GM” still needs work.
