More 2016 L.A. Auto Show Coverage

Lamborghini introduced another variant of its “entry-level” supercar at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show: the Huracán Rear-Wheel-Drive Spyder. This completes the Huracán lineup; an all-wheel-drive version of the Huracán Spyder is already on sale and the new RWD model means that both RWD and AWD will now be available on both coupe and Spyder models.

Let’s take a look at the (ridiculous) details.

Exterior

The Huracán RWD Spyder looks very similar to the AWD version, but there are subtle differences. The front and rear air ports have been changed, with modified front air intakes helping to provide more downforce over the front axle — a welcome addition on a car that has a 40/60 front/rear weight ratio.

Like the AWD version, the Huracán RWD Spyder will have a unique profile compared to the coupe with a soft-top that opens and closes in 17 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph. Lower the roof and two fins rise up to give the Huracán a sharper look in profile as well as help direct air into the engine, which is located behind the passenger compartment. Nineteen-inch Kari rims are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires that were exclusively developed for the RWD Huracán.

Under the Hood

The Huracán RWD Spyder is powered by a mid-mounted 580-hp, 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10 that makes 398 pounds-feet of torque. There is only one transmission, a seven-speed dual clutch automatic, which comes with launch control capability. The Huracán’s hybrid carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis helps keep weight down, and with a dry weight of just 3,327 pounds, that gives the Huracán RWD Spyder a weight-to-horsepower ratio of just 5.74:1. Acceleration from zero-to-62 mph happens in 3.6 seconds and top speed is 198 mph.

Pricing specifics were not announced, but Lamborghini indicated that it would be priced somewhere between the rear- ($204,995 with destination) and four-wheel drive ($242,445) variants of the Huracán coupe.
