Volvo’s electric-vehicle spinoff, Polestar, made big changes to its handsome 2 for 2024, with new powertrain setups and longer range for the hatchback. Now, the brand has unveiled pricing for the new model year: The 2024 Polestar 2 will start at $51,300 (all prices include $1,400 destination fee).

For 2024, single-motor models now drive the rear wheels instead of the fronts and make 299 horsepower, an increase of 68 hp over the 2023 Polestar 2, while dual-motor 2s also get a power bump, from 408 to 421 total hp.

Larger battery packs stretch the range for both of the long-range models. With its 82-kilowatt-hour battery, the single-motor Polestar 2 has an estimated range of 320 miles, according to the brand. (EPA certification should be completed and official figures released later in the year.) The single-motor 2 also now accepts up to 205 kilowatts of DC power when charging. Standard equipment now includes auto-dimming door mirrors, active blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.

The dual-motor 2 is limited to an estimated 276 miles with its 78-kWh battery pack, the trade-off being much quicker acceleration. Polestar estimates it can hit 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds; the single-motor 2 needs 5.9. The Pilot Pack safety gear, previously a $3,400 option, is now standard on dual-motor builds. It adds LED foglights with a cornering function, adaptive cruise control, and a rear collision warning and mitigation system that flashes the vehicle’s rear lighting to alert a driver who is approaching too fast from behind, applies the brakes and tightens the seat belts if it determines a rear-end collision is imminent.

Pricing and Availability

Deliveries of the 2024 Polestar 2 begin in August. The single-motor variant will have a starting price of $51,300; the dual-motor variant will start at $56,700.
