Remember when Hyundai and Kia were, fairly or not, considered bargain-basement econoboxes for people who either couldn’t afford a cooler car or who just wanted to get from point A to point B? My how far the South Korean brands have come in but a few short decades in the U.S. Not only has parent company Hyundai-Kia mostly shed its Kmart-car image, it’s gained a legitimate foothold in the luxury realm with the Genesis brand — not to mention managed to produce two of the most hotly anticipated vehicles in one of the hottest market segments in the 2020 Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride SUVs.

So, naturally, the two platform mates are now competing, in this case for the top spot among ’s most popular news articles. Truth be told, it seems no one can currently compete with the Telluride, whose mountain-resort-themed name suits its dominance at the summit of our weekly top 10 list in recent weeks. And this time out was no exception, as the Palisade put forth a worthy effort to topple the Telluride; in the end, reviewer Joe Wiesenfelder’s long-form answer to the question, “Can the 2020 Kia Telluride really go off-road?” mounted the model’s return to the top.

The answer to that question, by the way, is “yeah, sort of,” but anyone who’s seen TV or online advertisements showing the Telluride tearing up tough terrain will definitely want to get the full scoop by reading Wiesenfelder’s story. Left in the near-literal dust by the Telluride’s off-road exploits is its pal, the Palisade, for which pricing was recently announced. The SUV starts at a class-competitive $32,595, including a destination charge, but be sure to read the full rundown if you’re shopping for a mid-size SUV.

That’s not the only time this week the Telluride muscled out a family member for rank. At No. 5 on this week’s biggest news stories is our roundup of ’s most read expert reviews, where the Telluride trumped fellow Kia the 2020 Soul. Rounding out the top five news articles this week were our list of likes and dislikes about the 2019 Volvo XC40 in the third-place spot and a recall of model-year 2011-17 Ford Explorer SUVs in fourth.
