They say ya gotta get in where ya fit in, and in the fiercely competitive small-SUV market of today, automakers are tryna squeeze a contender into every conceivable space. For Mazda, that space was between its subcompact CX-3 and compact CX-5. Enter: the 2020 Mazda CX-30. While this in-betweener SUV may plug a hole in the automaker’s lineup, it wasn’t wedged in among our most popular news articles of the week, enjoying plenty of air and elbow room all the way up top.

The CX-30 edged out another compact SUV — one of the most popular in the U.S., as it were — relegating the Toyota RAV4 to second place. reviewer Jennifer Geiger highlights the major changes to the RAV4 for the 2020 model year (a new TRD Off-Road model and, at last, the availability of Android Auto), the price changes compared with the outgoing model (ranging from just $95 all the way up to $730 more) and her recommendation as to which model year you should buy between the 2020 or 2019. Another top performer this week was our report on the purported performance specs of the forthcoming resurrection of the gone-but-not-forgotten Hummer brand … as a GMC-badged pickup truck … that runs entirely on electric power … and has 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pounds-feet of torque … and hauls ass from 0-60 mph in the same 3.0 seconds as the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette.
