GM has finally released official information regarding the rumored Hummer EV all-electric pickup truck that will be built and sold under the GMC banner … and that official information is wild. The truck will be teased in a series of commercials during the Super Bowl, which will show the contrast between its crazy performance and the quietness of an all-electric vehicle.

That crazy performance GM is claiming? A 0-60-mph sprint of 3.0 seconds (Tesla claims 2.9 seconds for its tri-motor Cybertruck), 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pounds-feet of torque.

We asked GM if that torque figure was engine torque (the most commonly used measurement) or wheel torque (an entirely different way to measure torque), but GM declined to confirm anything before the Hummer EV’s full reveal in May. Put it this way: Wheel torque can be impressive in the right context, but it’d be a lot cooler if it were engine torque.

Based on what there is to see in the vague teaser, the Hummer EV will retain the angular looks of previous Hummers, as well as its signature grille design, though this time the “grille” is actually a lighting element with “Hummer” spelled out one letter at a time across the six vertical pieces. The likely LED headlights are H-shaped and make a cool little sequential light show as part of the truck’s startup sequence.

You can check out what we hope this all-electric pickup will have in the related link above. We should know more on May 20, when the Hummer EV is revealed and when, as the fine print of the teaser commercial notes, it goes on sale in the fall of 2021.
