Ford is last to the heavy-duty party with its refreshed 2020 Super Duty pickups, as GM already revealed its Silverado and Sierra HDs, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles its Ram HDs. We’ve driven both and were so impressed with both that they are among the nominees for our not-yet-announced Pickup Truck of the Year award. Do the latest Fords keep pace?

According to reviewer Aaron Bragman, Ford’s Super Duty more than makes up for its lack of the absolute latest in new technology or luxurious interior appointments with impressive capabilities.

“[I]f you’re looking for the latest flashy styling or ultra-luxe interior or gee-whiz connectivity technology, you’re going to have to look elsewhere, as the latest 2020 Ford Super Duty doesn’t have any of that,” Bragman reports. “What it does have is massive capability, unshakable competency and a reputation for delivering on its promises that this new version with its new powertrains is only going to make greater than ever.”

One other addition to the Super Duty lineup is the Tremor Off-Road Package that can make 4×4 versions of the F-250 and F-350 (single rear-wheel only) into a competent rig off the pavement. It may not be as purpose-built as the comparable Ram 2500 Power Wagon, but it should give both the Power Wagon and the Sierra HD AT4 a solid challenge. Plus, although it may not be as solid a towing rig as non-Tremor models, the Tremor can still tow.

In other truck news, we also took a look this past week at what Chevrolet did to update the Silverado 1500 for the 2020 model year, and what this means for new-truck shoppers deciding between a 2020 and 2019 model. Jeep also added a winter-ready version of the Gladiator to its lineup that boasts a number of features that should help owners keep the cold weather at bay. Meanwhile, GM purportedly is planning a resurrection of the Hummer brand — possibly as an all-electric GMC-badged pickup truck. GM also is working on a concept that can help pickup trucks towing trailers stop in shorter distances.
